For a couple of years I have had in mind to do outside cinema some evenings after dinner. I have watched the price of video projectors come down in inverse relationship to the quality. Wireless speakers seemed to have become a reality and so, one-month ago, I ordered the various pieces that I would need to make outdoor film screenings a reality. My great fear was that I would put it all-together, we’d all be sitting outside under a white moon waiting in anticipation and .... there would be screen but no sound ... or sound but no screen .... or the projector lamp would pop on the first turning-on ...
So there we were a few nights ago, all sitting on blankets under the stars, all the components were connected ..... and it worked - it was really just like going to the movies in the bayou - the frogs croaked, the moon rose over a starry sky, we drank prosecco and enjoyed the Blues Brothers!

Friday, July 3 2009 - Films under the pergola
James (Giacomo) from England has written...
What films do you show under the pergola in summer? Should I bring some of mine over to screen? I dont know what you do but it sounds like a lot of fun
Paul says...
When I decided that the time was right to start showing films outdoors in the summer (under the pergola or on the hill under the vineyard) my idea was to show famous (maybe I mean arty) Italian films to which English subtitles had been added. Also, I wanted to screen Gomorra (about the Camorra in Naples) and Il Divo about the ex-Prime Minister Andreotti). The idea was to bring more Italian flavor into the La Faula experience and expose guests to Italian culture through film. I had thought to start with the three Godfather films which I already had.
But it wasn’t to be. Much to my amazement, many, many guests travel with their (or their kids’) favorite DVDs. So far we have seen The Blues Brothers, Mamma Mia and Billy Eliot. Tonight was to be ’The Mask’ but a thunderstorm broke right at dinner time so this has been shifted to tomorrow.
So the answer to your question James is - bring your favorite (this Google American-English spell-checker is ruining, well, my English!) films, the one’s that you would really enjoy watching under the stars on a warm night with a soft breeze blowing and a bottle of cool La Faula white wine to hand!! The only prerequisite is that, as a minimum, it must be good for Adults and kids 12 years or over. Using the British Board of Film Classification Certificates, this would cover films rated U, PG, 12A, 12.
