We´re absolutely thrilled to see the progress on the new pool and we can´t wait to come back again this Summer.
The pictures look very enticing and at 20C already (is that right?), I wish I was in there already.
Many thanks Paul and Luca for your hard work over the Winter, we hope to profit from it this holiday.
Very best wishes
Gary, Sylvia, Emma and Chloe.

In the hot weather of a couple of weeks ago the pool temperature got up to 22.5° but it has since slipped back to 19°. More hot weather is on the way so it should be very swimmable very soon. That said, I should mention that this last weekend two hardy Austrian guests decided to give the pool its inauguration. I thought that they would dip in & that would be it but they were in & out of the pool for a large part of the afternoon. Apparently if you are used to swimming in Austrian lakes with a water temperature of 16° 19° even seems quite warm!

We are really very pleased that the pool is ready. Our real fear was to start the season without a functioning pool. How you could explain it to guests - especially those with children - just didn´t bear thinking about! The winter was warm & dry so no time was lost to bad weather. But mainly, all the people who worked on the pool were extremely professional & timely. It´s come up really well with all credit due to those who put it up.

Although it looks simple, in fact the pool was complicated (& rather expensive) to build. First, the Health Department defined it as a public pool which meant lots of extras from the lay-out to the plant. Second, it falls in a Protected Nature Reserve in which building is usually prohibited. To get permission to build we had to show (after 6 tries) that after the initial construction the pool´s use would have no environmental impact. So there is a lot of stuff underground that you don´t see to manage the water declorination & removal of sun-block & tanning oils (yes, really - for the technically inclined there is a ´fat & oils condensation tank´!). Thirdly, as Friuli is in a seismic zone, all constructions have to be earthquake proof which meant lots of concrete & reinforcing iron. To finish off, the new public pool electricity regulations meant that every metal object in the pool area had to be earthed - this included welding all the reinforcing iron in the concrete together & connecting it to the ´earth´ that surrounds the pool at a depth of one metre. This did seem a bit excessive considering that the only electrical objects in the pool surround are the 12 volt lights. Finally there will be a hedge all around the pool area to oblige people to use the footbath (which is refreshed with chlorinated water every time someone enters it!). Phew - it seems amazing that we ever got a pool let alone one on time!

The last works remaining are the wooden decking for the pool surround & the external lights. The decking is of Finish Spruce / Fir cooked in an oven at 220°c until the pores in the wood chrystalise & render it waterproof. Enjoy!!
